The timeline: 1970s to the future

Before The 1970s

Engineers and manufacturers were united by a single artifact. The blueprint carried the design and the way to make it: one source of truth from the drawing room to the shop floor. It built the railroads, the arsenal of democracy, and the rockets that reached the moon.

The 1970s

CAD split the blueprint in two: models for engineers, instructions for the floor. Design went digital. Manufacturing knowledge stayed behind, in paper, in PDFs, in people. The mechanical engineer left the shop floor for the back office, and design divorced reality.

Today

Planes are designed 5,000 miles from where they’re built. Engineers graduate without ever seeing a shop floor. And The Build, the who, what, when, where, why, and how of every product, lives scattered across PLM, ERP, MES, spreadsheets, and the memories of a generation now retiring.

One in four American manufacturing workers is 55 or older. Demand is arriving at records: data centers, defense, reshoring. The factories are coming home to a country that never wrote down how it builds.

We are bringing reality back to mechanical design. BuildOS, the AI Build Platform, is the first home for The Build: work instructions, MBOM, and BOP generated from CAD, executed on the floor, improving with every run. The factory finally gets what the enterprise has had for fifty years: a system of record.

We don’t optimize workflows. We build the system of record for how physical reality gets constructed.

The Build has four movements: Design the Build. Plan the Build. Make the Build. Sustain the Build. Dirac owns Planning today, where the link between engineering and manufacturing is weakest. The vision is the full arc: every function that touches The Build, running on one platform. Factories that are dynamic and adaptive, at the speed of demand.

We don’t overhype and we don’t get ahead of ourselves. We believe in human ingenuity, in the American spirit, and in the will that makes progress inevitable.
